Local produce – Goldfields
The Goldfields is an area with a varied harvest, ranging from the cool climate and high altitude produce to warm Mediterranean influences.
Catch your own trout (and then have it expertly prepared for you, or take it home to enjoy), sample traditional game meats or the local specialty, bull boar sausages. Buy freshly-picked apples and pears straight from the growers or try some of the locally pressed olive oil and artisan cheeses.
Those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed either. Discover exquisite handmade chocolates, delicious biscuits, plum puddings and warming fruit pies.
When travelling around the region keep an eye out for farm gates and road side stalls or time your visit to coincide with one of the many local weekend markets.
