Dining on the Great Ocean Road
Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula are well served with cafés and restaurants offering fine food with sweeping bay views. Enjoy wonderful seafood at the Geelong waterfront or take a leisurely lunch at the beautiful restaurant on the jetty at Barwon Heads. For fine dining, try one of the excellent winery restaurants such as Pettavel.
You’ll also find a wide selection of dining options in the main coastal resorts along the Great Ocean Road. From casual sidewalk cafés with views of the ocean to acclaimed restaurants, all serve the freshest produce from the sea and from the farming hinterland. To dine with an ocean view, head for Chris’s at Beacon Point in the hills overlooking Apollo Bay or the delightfully casual Rookery Nook Hotel at Wye River. Further down the coast at Warrnambool, Pippies by the Bay also offers stunning views of Lady Bay and the Southern Ocean.
The western coast was one of the first areas of Victoria settled by Europeans and the legacy of this can be enjoyed in the old pubs to be found in many small towns in the region. Pick up a pub tour map from a local visitor information centre and explore the Great South West Pub trail.
