Camping in parks and reserves
Camping is permitted in 25 of Victoria's 35 national parks. There are different types of camping available in parks, reserves and forests throughout Victoria:
Serviced campgrounds usually include:
- access by sealed roads
- defined sites
- flush toilets
- tap water
- picnic tables
- barbecues
- hot showers
Some campgrounds have laundries, and cabins, flats or lodges available may also be available.
Camping areas with basic facilities usually include:
- access by sealed and unsealed roads
- defined sites
- fireplaces
- picnic tables
- water supply
- non-flushing (drop) toilets
In some parks, there may be designated camping areas without any facilities.
Bush (dispersed) camping
Bush camping is permitted in some of the larger or more remote parks within Victoria. Generally, access is more difficult and campers need to be self-sufficient and well prepared for emergencies.
Permits and bookings
Campgrounds are busy during peak holiday times, long weekends and during the summer season. Most parks charge a fee for camping and some of the more popular parks require bookings well in advance. Some parks require campers to obtain camping permits, which can be purchased from Park Visitor Centres or at the campground you are intending to camp in.
