Shopping – Goldfields

Antique shopping

Many of the shopping highlights in this region have an historical flavour – from the Mining Exchange Gold Shop in Ballarat to the Bendigo Pottery, Australia’s oldest pottery workshop, where you can buy beautiful pottery pieces and visit the museum to see pottery produced since 1858.

Spend an afternoon browsing through the many antique, collectibles and fine art shops in Castlemaine and Maldon. A good place to start your hunt for a pre-loved treasure is Mostyn and Barker Street in Castlemaine or the main street in Maldon. The historic Maryborough Railway Station building is also home to an excellent Antique Emporium, café and gallery.

Wander down Bendigo's View Street and Bath Lane to discover boutique clothing and designer jewellery, or drop into Castlemaine's Fashion Central on Templeton Street for a selection of the region's independent boutique designers.

Other villages in the region such as Talbot and Clunes house an eclectic mix of shops selling everything from handmade furniture to vintage clothing and collectible books. And if you are shopping for local produce, time your visit to coincide with one of the many local weekend markets.
