Victoria is a popular destination for rock climbing enthusiasts of any ability, who can choose from a variety of cliffs and crags including the world-famous Mt Arapiles, the spectacular granite gorges and tors of Mt Buffalo and the ancient landscape of the Grampians.
Little Bourke Street in Melbourne’s city centre is home to outdoor stores. If you need to get gear and guidebooks, this is a good place to do it. The staff at these stores are all outdoor enthusiasts, and are well qualified to hook you up with the right ropes, harnesses, shoes and other gear.
Qualified instructors
If you’re trying climbing and caving for the first time, a number of companies operate introductory classes to teach you the basic skills. There are lots of indoor climbing centres in Victoria, which are great places to practice before you head outdoors.
