Werribee Park

Werribee Park Mansion

Surrounded by 10 hectares of majestic formal gardens, Sofitel Mansion & Spa, contemporary sculpture, tranquil Werribee River and original farmyard, Werribee Park is the perfect location for a day out with family and friends.

Werribee Park Mansion
The magnificent Italianate-style Werribee Park Mansion is testament to the opulence and success of early Australian pastoralists. Still regarded as the largest private residence in Victoria, the mansion was built between 1874 and 1877 by pastoralist brothers Thomas and Andrew Chirnside.

Exquisitely restored to its former glory, the mansion is open daily to the public. Visitors can tour much of the lavishly-restored mansion, including the ground floor, main bedrooms, billiard room, reception room and kitchen wing.

The opulent taste of the Chirnside family is highlighted with an impressive selection of original decor. The audiovisual exhibits and costumed guides provide an insight into the lives of nineteenth-century domestic staff.

Victoria State Rose Garden
Inhale the perfume of 5,000 roses at the internationally-recognised Victoria State Rose Garden (best from November to April).

Contemporary sculpture
The Werribee Park Sculpture Walk showcases an interesting collection of work by Australia's leading sculptors. Winning works from the annual Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award, held from March to May in Werribee Park’s spectacular formal gardens, formulated the beginnings of the exhibition in 2000.
