Walking and cycling – High Country

Walking in the High Country

Call it hiking, bushwalking or just admiring the stunning scenery, the extensive network of tracks and trails around Victoria's highest peaks offer delights galore for those setting out on foot.

Walking as adrenaline adventures
Prepare your hiking sticks and ready your pack to set off to the top of Victoria's highest peaks for challenging terrain and breathtaking views over the stunning alpine landscape.

Walk the iconic Razorback, across an exposed ridge linking a classic alpine peak and Mount Hotham ski resort. You can also journey from Hotham right across to Falls Creek on the Alpine Wild Walk, crossing the Bogong High Plains and its carpet of summer wildflowers, past snow gum woodlands and historic cattlemen's huts.

Meandering through the High Country
Use your feet to travel between the High Country's family-run boutique wineries and gourmet food producers. Wander the banks of the Murray River to wineries along Rutherglen's Muscat Trail.

Stroll the panoramic alpine plains around Falls Creek, or weave along Mount Buffalo's excellent walking tracks, spotting kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, possums, gliders, falcons and delicate rarities like the Alpine Silver Xenica butterfly.
