National Gallery of Victoria
The National Gallery of Victoria has two homes within easy walking distance of each other in the one magnificent arts precinct.
At the top of St Kilda Road is the NGV International on St Kilda Road and across the Yarra River is the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square.
Spanning four levels, the NGV International, St Kilda Road houses Victoria’s extensive international collection, one of the most impressive collections in the Southern Hemisphere. Major renovations, completed in late 2003, complement the much-loved attributes of Sir Roy Grounds’ original design, including the famous water wall that greets visitors at the main entrance.
The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square has more Australian art on permanent display than any other gallery in the world. Spanning from the colonial period to the present day, the collection totals more than 20,000 works, with 800 on display at any one time. Exhibitions are changed frequently to show the full breadth and diversity of the collection.
