The Lar-ne-jeering track is a short return walk that leads to an Aboriginal rock shelter nestled on the forested southern slopes of Mt Gorrin. The shelter contains ancient rock art, probably painted by the Ngutuwal balug (mountain people) clan, and displays a style unique to the area. Indigenous Australians occupied this area long before European settlement, and the name Langi Ghiran is derived from their phrase for ‘home of the black cockatoo’.

Another pleasant 2-kilometre walk starts from the park camping ground along Easter Creek and climbs to the 950-metre summit of Mt Langi Ghiran. Winding through woodland and past lichen-covered granite tors, the track leads to an old reservoir, built in the 1880s to supply water to Ararat, then along an old water race to a scenic lookout at the rugged peak.

The park is also renowned for its wonderful native bird life. Flocks of yellow-tailed black cockatoos feed on the silver banksias, and many other species are often seen, including Peregrine Falcons, Eastern Rosellas and Wedge-tailed Eagles.
