Gallery Funaki

Regulars at Mari Funaki's gallery have a very personal connection to the artwork – mostly because they wear it everyday. Since 1995, Mari has sought to expand the concept of contemporary jewellery and hers is the only gallery in Australia to exhibit both local and international designers. Here the idea is just as important as the execution and some of the one-off or limited-edition pieces have an entire manifesto behind them. But it's enough just to be intrigued by the work itself. Artists transform everything from precious metals to everyday detritus like paper and plastic into items to be enjoyed for a short time or a lifetime. M.PADULA
