Scenic attractions
The Yarra River comes from the local Aboriginal phrase ‘Yarra Yarra’ meaning running or falling water. Once a bustling waterway, it is now a peaceful and picturesque home to wildlife, waterfowl, joggers, cyclists, strollers, and rowers. Alongside this meandering river, you’ll find a vast network of scenic walks. These will take you past the Polly Woodside Melbourne Maritime Museum, the Southgate Arts and Leisure Precinct, the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
If riding a bike is more to your speed, hire a bicycle and pedal along the river, or take a scenic cruise and see Melbourne from a different perspective.
Melbourne's bays are also picturesque and activity-filled locations. Take a stroll or rollerblade along the Bay Trail, as it takes you through pretty bayside suburbs such as St Kilda, Elwood, Port Melbourne and Williamstown. Dine on fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants or sit and soak up the sun on a Melbourne beach.
