Just west of Newhaven is the road to Churchill Island, a small island where you can take a scenic helicopter flight across or reach it by a bridge. Visit the island to explore the historic farm buildings, original homestead and gracious old gardens. The island is also a haven for birds and has a café and historical display.
Newhaven has a jetty, boat ramp and marina and is popular with water sport enthusiasts. Cast a line from the town jetty or head for the surf at nearby beaches including Woolamai Surf Beach, and Smiths Beach.
Stunning sea views, interesting geological formations and abundant wildlife can be found at nearby Cape Woolamai, the highest point on the Island, where there are a series of excellent coastal walking tracks.
Barbeques, playground and public toilets are provided in the Richard Grayden Park on Forrest Avenue. Toilets are located at the jetty in Anderson Street, the yacht club on the corner of Seaview and Cleeland Streets, the Information Centre and Woolamai Surf Beach.
