Straddling the Murray River and surrounded by red sand hills and river flats, the twin towns of Barham and Koondrook offer a busy commercial centre, a wide range of accommodation and quality sporting facilities. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy casting a line for golden perch and Murray cod in the Murray or the man-made Barham Lakes Complex.
Activities and attractions
- Tee off at the Barham Golf and Country Club. The par 72 layout is carved from a natural bush setting with a stream winding through most of the holes. The fourth hole, the course’s signature hole, is known as Gallipoli and is arguably the deepest, biggest, single greenside bunker found on any course along the Murray River
- Enjoy a forest drive through Gunbower Island State Forest, a 65,000-acre flood plain that is internationally recognised as a wetland of significance for its importance to bird life, native mammals and amphibians
- Play a game of bowls at one of the well-established clubs including the Barham and District Services Memorial Bowling Club and the Barham Sports Bowling Club
- Spend a couple of hours at the well appointed Barham Service Club, boasting regular live entertainment and events, a bistro and coffee shop and recreational facilities
- Visit the renowned red gum showrooms displaying fine furniture and souvenir pieces crafted from local timber
- Go bushwalking in one of the state forest areas, including the Koondrook, Gunbower Island and Campbell’s Island state forests, where you can enjoy a relaxing walk among the tall river red gums
- Go on a fishing cruise along the Murray River.

How to get there
Barham-Koondrook is under 4 hours from Melbourne. Travel via Bendigo on the Calder Highway then follow the Loddon Highway to Kerang, turning off towards Barham-Koondrook.
