Camp beside the Wimmera River with its fringe of river red gums. Wake to birdsong, or hike the rolling dunes of the desert, alive with spring wildflowers and native wildlife.
Far from being a featureless and barren desert, the park is home to a surprising number of plant and animal species that have adapted to the semi-arid environment. Extensive heathlands and woodlands of yellow gum and slender cypress-pines support a diverse range of birds, from wrens, parrots and honeyeaters to the fascinating mound-building Mallee Fowl.
Day visitors may prefer to walk a single section of the trail and excellent shorter walks can be taken from both camping grounds.
