Eureka Week 2005
EUREKA 151 - 2005

The 25th of November to the 4th of December 2005 marks the 151st anniversary of the battle at the Eureka Stockade.

From the rallies on the goldfields, through to the raising of the Rebels’ Flag (the Southern Cross), the attack on the ill-defended stockade (3 December 1854) and the subsequent treason trials, Eureka is a story of a group of diggers from around the world who defended their rights, took concerted action, won public acclaim and helped build Australian democracy.

To mark the 151st anniversary, a range of related but distinct activities have been planned. The program provides a contemporary view of the themes and legacy of Eureka, exploring its relevance to today (democracy, cultural diversity and Australian identity).

Events include: the Dawn commemoration, Diggers March, the Dawn Lantern Walk, the Stockade Picnic also 'Reflections of Eureka' a free exhibition at The Eureka Centre.
