Family activities Grampians
The Grampians region has an abundance of activities for the whole family. Although nature is the star of a Grampians family adventure, there are plenty of manmade attractions too – a choice of contemporary and historic, cultural and ones that are simply loads of fun.
Discover local attractions
The surrounding towns have a great variety of family attractions, from the Volcanoes Discovery Centre at Penshurst to the Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum in Hamilton. There are the annual March sheep dog trials in Moyston where farmers and their loyal friends are put through their paces. Try mini golf for an adventurous challenge, or see the exotic animals at the Halls Gap Zoo. Some towns also have great indoor play centres, ten pin bowling and heated swimming pools with kid-friendly zones.
Enjoy a scenic walk and relaxing swim
There are easy, shaded walks, some sealed, that are suitable for prams or wheelchairs – Venus Baths near Halls Gap, the path beside Lake Hamilton or in the picnic grounds beside the Wimmera or the Avoca River, in the botanical parks of Ararat, Hamilton and Horsham. Swimming pools are popular in the warm summer months – and look out for ice creameries!
Take a break at a picnic spot
Picnics are always popular and in the many parks and reserves, picnic spots adjacent to waterfalls, tall timber, rocky outlets and scenic beauty are never far away. Camping has been a family activity in the Grampians for generations and it's no wonder with well equipped campgrounds on some of the regions best real estate.
