Mt Abrupt (Mt Murdadjoog) Trail
Grampians National Park
Length: 3.5 kilometres
Walk: 1.5 hours one way
Track: Moderate
Grade: Steep
Start: Halls Gap Road
Finish: Mt Abrupt (Mt Murdadjoog) Summit
Nearby: Dunkeld
Permits/bookings: None required
Best time: Spring to early summer.
This walk takes you to the rugged top of Mt Abrupt (Mt Murdadjoog, 827 metres), one of the park's finest lookouts. To get there cross rocky slabs surrounded by low sub-alpine vegetation, including heathland, snow gums and stringybark woodland.
Rising gradually as it heads north toward nearby Signal Peak (780 metres), the trail swings suddenly to the south-west and follows an escarpment rim toward Mt Abrupt (Mt Murdadjoog). Once there, take in the wonderful views of the Serra Range to the north and over Dunkeld in the south. Keep an eye open for wedge-tailed eagles, nankeen kestrels and peregrine falcons.
