| Office fun a lot more fun when it's not actually in the office, so it comes as no surprise that The Deanery is a veritable mecca for patrons of the suited variety. That being said, while it looks like the sort of place that requires a schmick suit and phrases such as "no really, I'm on the door list", rest assured that this bar manages to banish all traces of lofty fustian and just gets on with the job of being super-stylish - in an accessible kind of way. Tucked away in a laneway that fuses the grimy with the groovy, The Deanery packs coolsies-about-town to the rafters and offers post-work drinks that manage to avoid the clutches of tawdry gimmicks and soundtracks that are better suited to one of notorious teenager Corey Worthington's parties. A convivial atmosphere facilitates the imbibing of ales aplenty, with soft leather couches, suggestive lattice orbs and a whisper of autumnal tones framing semi-private booths. Beige walls are tempered with dark wooden tables and panels, and industrial chic is executed perfectly via polished floors and ceilings. Those in the mood for some sneaky people-watching can perch upon the dark timber bleaches, while those hankering for something a substantial feed can head upstairs to the restaurant. The wine list certainly does the bar's subtitle of 'wine reserve' justice, with quaffers spoilt for choice by an impressive range of Australian and imported wines. Those who've invested a little more heavily in their liquid interests are able to store their reserves on-site and can access their collection during the bar's opening hours. A little noisy at times - but in an inoffensive way - this is certainly one office that you're not going to mind doing a little overtime in. |
