| Inner-city socialising is now all the easier thanks to Hush Bar. Launched in early 2006, this shiny drinking destination is nestled in the side of Melbourne Central, close to the cinema, and it's one good reason to blow half your pay packet on a single night out. "Why would I want to do that?" you ask. Two words: Cuban cigars. Mix that with an expertly mixed cocktail, slightly tilted in your hand in that "I'm so cool I don't really need to hold this" way, and you have a recipe for success. Sure, Hush could be dismissed and passed off as just another boutique bar, but really, it goes way beyond the stereotype. Unlike many of its brethren, where the designer toilets threaten to undermine the rest of the interior, Hush takes a simpler approach. The sleek floor plan flows past the bar and out onto the balcony, and the decor is finished in gleaming glass, wood and leather. DJs on the deck play jazzy house and smooth grooves that will help you cut some rug - except of course, you'll have to BYO rug.
