Take a few hours to visit the beach-side (and city-side) suburb of Port Melbourne. As well as fresh sea air and ocean and city views, you can spend an entire day down the cultural end of Bay Street and not run out of things to do and see. Established in 2004, Port Art Project uses an original approach to bring some of the latest art works from Melbourne artists out on loan within the community. An artist-run gallery now features at the heart of the Port Art Trail, which showcases bi-annual Art Prizes, including a Peoples' Choice Award .The top 30 art works are showcased in print form on a central display at both entrances of the main arcade, near Coles supermarket. The originals are hosted after the events in local banks, hotels and other businesses in Bay Street, the main shopping strip of Port Melbourne (a map of the Port Art Trail can be found on the Central displays). Voters in the Peoples' Choice (held twice a year) can win an art work. For a comprehensive overview of the art facility which also has a graphic studio and a massage therapy room, visit our website. |
