Tucked down the rugby-end of Greville Street, this place is one of the last bastions of informality within Prahran, which is becoming increasingly plagued by tightly supervised door-lists and up-turned polo shirts.

Asahi, Guinness, Heineken, Tooheys New, Hahn Premium and Carlton all flow on tap. Bottled beer options include Beez Neez, Red Stripe, Coopers, Corona and Little Creatures.

Thankfully, the carpet here is free of that 'I-haven't-been-cleaned-since-the-rule-of-Caesar' smell - an odour synonymous with most corner pubs. This is a big plus, especially when it's time to eat. Lunch and dinner are served everyday. Prices range from $7 for a bowl of wedges, to $29 for a porterhouse steak. Other faithful ol' pub fare options include nachos, pasta, pizza, chicken, fish and salad. You can tuck into your nosh at a restaurant table at the bar, or while frolicking in the beer garden (note -does not grow beer).

Rugby union fans, rejoice. The College Lawn Hotel is a rare Melbourne venue that shows live matches. Get in early on match day. Standing room on the footpath outside is all that's offered to those who are tardy.

Weekly events include live music on Sundays and trivia on Wednesdays.
