Across Africa

Across Africa offers a range of authentic and unique handmade art and crafts from Africa.  Only 90 minutes drive from Melbourne, our retail outlet is situated in Yarragon Village.  Our name was derived from the fact that our products are sourced from many countries within Africa.

Having lived in South Africa for almost 40 years our passion for African artifacts has led us to want to inspire and share with others the culture and uniqueness of artwork from African communities.  We have endeavoured to support individual African artists as well as organisations by purchasing their artwork and providing an outlet in Australia for their sale.

With extremely high unemployment in most African countries, indigenous people are using their creative skills to produce items of value.  In some cases artists are being given an opportunity to be trained in new skills.  Through their artwork these people are able to generate an income for them and their families.  In addition many organisations and small businesses are established to provide a platform from which artists can sell their products both nationally and internationally.

Each handmade item is unique.  Products are made from hide, stone, metal, wood, shells, cotton, clay or glass.  Some are produced through recycling or from using the natural product.  Our impressive range includes basketry, masks, musical instruments, textiles and fabrics, clothing, stone, metal and wood sculptures, furniture, jewellery, ceramics, greeting cards, books, home decor and a small range of South African foods.

If there is something you would like that we don't stock, we are happy where possible to source it for you.  We also offer an interior design service for our range of products. Repair and restoration of soapstone sculptures can be arranged.
