The 2010 Victorian Mile High Dragon Boat Championships will be a fantastic weekend of fun, food, drinks and great competition as teams battle it out dragon head to dragon head on Rocky Valley Lake – definitely not to be missed!
Haven’t paddled a dragon boat before? Don’t worry, on Saturday we provide all the necessary safety and skills training. The Victorian Dragon Boats Association provide experienced helms and instructors, we have paddles, boats and buoyancy vests. All you need to do is get yourself a team together. A full boat will take 20 paddlers and one drummer, who will keep you all paddling in time. On Saturday night the action continues with pre-race dinners and parties.
Sunday is race day and it will begin with a Dragon performance by the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne. The titles up for grabs include the “Victorian Mile High Champions”, “Club Lodge Team Champions”, “Pink Ribbon Team Champions”, “Mountain Team Champions”, “Sport Club Champions” “Corporate Team Champions” and ”Women’s Team Champions”.
The winning team in each category is awarded the perpetual trophy, and medals go to each member of the top three teams in each category. After the trophies and medals are awarded on the foreshore, it’s time to head back to the village for the official Dragon Boat After Party!
Why not have a long weekend at Falls Creek and stay from Friday 22 - Tuesday 26 January (Australia Day)? On Monday, take a walk to the historic Wallace’s Hut or go for a bike ride and enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery. At night, enjoy a movie at the open air cinema. On Tuesday, have a long & lazy Aussie breakfast before heading home to continue your Australia Day celebrations.
