2 September: Spring has sprung

Postcards Logo

Spring has sprung and on this week’s show we bring you some destinations we thought might be nice to visit during this season or anytime, really. Lawrence samples the produce of King Island, Glen runs with the brumbies and visits a guest house with an interesting tale and Bridget lunches at Sault before checking out some of the latest in spring fashion.

Sault Restaurant and Functions

Sault
When you first set eyes on Sault you could be mistaken for thinking you were somewhere in Provence. Set against the backdrop of the Wombat State Forest in Sailors Falls, 70 minutes north-west of Melbourne, Sault is a restaurant and lavender producing farm. Sault offers some fabulous food in a stylish restaurant but you can also take a stroll around the lake and admire the bird life. Or you could walk the distance of the lavender farm and then purchase some of their product on the way through.

Royal Melbourne Show

Brumbies at the Royal Melbourne Show
Even though the brumby isn't native to Australia, many people consider them to be a national icon and part of our heritage. If you're after a few fun filled days and nights, get down to the Royal Melbourne Show this year and, instead of stocking up on showbags, do yourself a favour and check out the fantastic brumby program on offer. You will get the chance to see some brumbies in action and learn more about the Victorian Brumby Association.

Bellinzona Grange Country Retreat

Bellinzona Grange Country Retreat
Spring is in the air and there's no better time to dust off those winter cobwebs and get yourself feeling and looking great. Just by looking at it, it is hard to believe that the Bellinzona guest house has burnt down twice, but this beautiful Edwardian homestead is back, bigger and better than ever. There are 43 luxury suites that are fully decked out with everything you'll need to make your stay a comfortable one. If it's a conference, weekend away, some serious time out or a special occasion like a wedding, Bellinzona Grange Country Retreat should be on the top of your list this spring.

King Island

King Island
A tiny little island out in the middle of Bass Strait, King Island is home to more than 9,000 cows that produce the milk that makes the world famous cheese. Loz and the crew flew with King Island Air, the only airline that specialises in servicing King Island; they can get you to the island seven days a week, all year round. Located on the South East Coast of the island and about 40 kilometres from the dairy you'll find Portside Links, the crew's accommodation for the evening. After four years of creativity and hard work, Portside Links has been lovingly restored into two luxury self-contained apartments and one bed and breakfast suite. It is secluded and relaxing, making it the perfect hideaway for couples of all ages.
