With the chance of free accomodation, courtesy of my daughter, who could resist 6 days in Melbourne.
May, 2007 I headed for this iconic city. While my daughter worked, i explored.
On foot, by tram, by train I went.
The Melbourne museum shared all its wonderful displays from the bush walk to the large whale skeleton in the foyer. I checked out the shops and could only look and dream because money was a little tight. I loved riding the trams and for a break would stop by Mary Martin's Bookshop and Cafe for a coffee. On my daughter's day off we walked along the wonderful Yarra river walkway. We spotted about 30 bats hanging upside down in the trees. I found the wildlife fascinating.
I even managed to visit 2 Toastmaster clubs while I was there. I have been a Toastmaster for 14 years. The faces may be different but the warm and friendly Toastmaster welcome is the same whereever you go in the world. I was invited to evaluate a speech at each club.
But the most magic experience was waking up one morning (My daughter had an apartment at Quest on Bourke) and looking out the window about 7am in the morning and seeing 5 hot air balloons rising above the music shop across the road. What a magnificent sight. My only regret is not being up there enjoying the view for myself and if I ever go back, have promised myself a flight.
