As a couple of Kiwi Golden Oldies who lived in St Kilda for 5 years recently , we were delighted to stumble across the (then)newly opened Chocolate Shop CACAO.
Goodies in the window plus the items on the menu drew us inside to discover an Aladdins cave of pure delights( VERY definitely plural)
The young Frenchman who(with his wife and new baby) had decided to settle in Melbourne and bring his craft with him was a true breath of fresh air to us both. Welcoming, hospitable, charming, and obviously talented we felt as though we had been invited into his home/life, and became VERY regular visitors. We even tried to improve our conversational French, and he his English.
Can you imagine an edible Chess set and Board in white and brown chocolate? Easter Rabbits, birds etc on special occassions in addition to the daily range of hand crafted shape and flavour delights made on the premises. Hand selected gift boxes of your flavour choices tied up with ribbons, for that gift for a friend.
Do I sound like his marketing manager??-I'm not but could easily be.
We told all our friends in Melbourne and any Kiwi visitor was trotted along for the delicious hot chocolate ( or coffees ,food etc)drinks and the entertainment of watching (through the glass) the chocolates being created under strict hygenic conditons.
Such memories continue to stay with us and we always visit Cacao in Fitzroy St on every visit back to Melbourne,as well as directing other Kiwis there for their trips.
