I love Melbourne and visit every year around Christmas time. I usually stay at least 4 weeks with family, friends, B&Bs and hotels (especially the Windsor if I can get away from everyone else). Lygon Street is my favourite eating area followed closely by Sorrento. Touring country Victoria is always interesting and my favourite travel group is the melbourne travel club hosted by Coach Tours of Australia and Helen in Kew. If it was not for my friends and family and my job (which gives me the money to travel to Victoria) I'd like to move to Victoria. Shopping is great even on a shoetring and the Visitors centre at Federation Square is run by wonderful helpful staff and loads of tempting brochures.
Werribee Open Range Zoo would have to be the best zoo in Australia. I do not fly and travel on the Indian Pacific and Overland trains but I'm hoping to try the Greyhound bus from Adelaide to Melbourne next time.
