My thread starts in Fitzroy. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to work from where I live, so I head up Brunswick St on my way to Flinders St station.

I window shop along the way and as I head up the hill, there are usually 20 or so druggies/drunkies in little groups of two or three, rubbing their eyes, drinking beers (it's 9.30, for God's sake!) and staggering around. It's a bit like Night of the Living Dead, but it's daytime and instead of brains, they want "chaaange."

Because it's Monday and I want inspiration, I decide to walk down Flinders Lane. There are lots of beautiful spaces with high ceilings, and people are enjoying their coffee in the sun. There are art galleries and craft shops and of course, Zambesi. (I wonder how they're going in the recession?)

I'm now in Degraves St and because I've saved on tram fare I call in to Number 5, where I talk shI( with Sam and Meg about the weekend or what's going on in the news. Meg makes me the best coffee in Melbourne, even though she's a Kiwi... and because I'm a regular, I still only pay $2.

I take away and head to Flinders St station, cursing Marc at Waffle On (in French) before heading down the stairs to Campbell Arcade.

Suddenly, the world is quiet and peaceful. It's an oasis of calm. Very annoying - because Campbell Arcade's where my shop is!!!

Not to worry... I say gidday to Michell the barber, Kaz at the Cat's Meow and Steven, the convenience store man. Darren is changing his display and gives me the fingers; how very dare he!

I turn the key and open MUFF Clothing. Within a few minutes my first customer, a regular visitor from Adelaide, pops in for a look. Another week of fabulous recycled fashion finds has begun!
