Where to...feel the breeze on your neck and entertain the kids!
It was a beautiful sunny day, not too long ago and we had a bunch of kids on baby sitting duty.
There are 6 in total, 5 girls and 1 boy - all under the age of 11 and all from the same brood. We wanted to see them smile and have a good time, which lately had been tough for them to muster.
We racked our brains with the endless possibilities. Should we go to the zoo? No a few of them have done that. What about the swimming pools? Too many screaming strangers and I am not getting into my togs! What about the park? Beautiful but too many flies!
So in the end the light bulbs came on and after our BBQ lunch, with not too much red cordial but plenty of laughs and tomato sauce, we ended up at Williamstown Pier.
From here I went and saw the man with the little yellow cap. We negotitated a fair price, $30 for all 6 kids, myself and a friend to board the ferry – that would take us around the bay and within the most magnificent views of Marvellous Melbourne.
It was only 45 minutes but it was the best 45 minutes I can remember for a long time.
The squeals they let out when their hair flung over their faces and the pointing and prodding, “did you see that?” and “look at that fish”.
There was the occasional need to take a break from the outside and come back inside, to calm the tummy too.
I highly recommend this trip to all young and old, it is fascinating and joyous, wavy and crashing but most of all a ‘hell of a time!
