When you think of Melbourne, you think of the MCG.

Playing host to so many great sporting events, thousands of crazed fans and boasting an atmosphere that could rival any sports facility in the world – it’s no surprise that someone like me would dream of playing football at the MCG.
Growing up in the Dandenong Ranges, the thought of playing football for Australia at the MCG was unimaginable. I spent most of my younger years playing for my local club Monbulk Football Club or kicking around with my friends at the local park. At night, I would watch my football idols on television and dream of playing in front of a blockbuster crowd.
I loved going to the MCG and quite often watched Hawthorn play. I will never forget seeing Hawthorn beat our rivals Essendon in a nail biter! The atmosphere was unbelievable.
I remember the first time I saw a cricket game at the MCG. The stadium was jam packed with supporters! I watched Mark Waugh save yet another match for Australia against the West Indies. I admire the skills of cricketers and still enjoy watching matches today.
A personal highlight for me was attending the World Cup Qualifier Australia V Iran match at the MCG in 1997. Many of my friends were playing in the squad and a young Harry Kewell scored his first ever goal! All we needed was a draw but momentum was lost after a spectator interrupted that game. It was heartbreaking to watch!
Now I want to play for Australia. I have already had one opportunity to pull on the Australian jersey, a moment I will always treasure. I can’t wait to do it again!
On Tuesday 11 September the Socceroos will be playing against one of the world’s best football teams, Argentina. So many of the world’s greatest soccer players have come from Argentina – Lionel Messi, Gabrielle Hienze and of course Diego Maradona.
Either as a participant or viewer the match promises to be unforgettable! I can’t wait to be part of the action.
