This bar is absolutely beautiful, classy and has great soleful, sensual music. You ascend red stairs with patterned walls and soft lighting into a gorgiously indulgent bar with live soulful musicians most nigght. It is a must for a romantic after dinner drink, or for an evening with the girlfriends in a luxurious surrounding.
I was there recently, and the bar is decked out in extravagant plush deep red and mahogony with a a huge guilded bar and soft lighting. It went back nearly every night on my week in melbourne, and each night it was inhabited by smart looking young men in stylish suits and women with spectacular shoes. The doormen were charming gentlemen, smartly dressed and without the usual sleaze factor.
The whole place has a relaxed, glamorous, cozy, sensual vibe and those red velvet lounges are the perfect position to enjoy a quiet drink with a lover, and the soulful music, often with a latin or reggae flavour is perfect for a little spin.
I highly reccomend this bar, at 123 Bourke Street, as a stop off after dinner or before night out at the clubs.
