There’s no excuse to be bored or stuck inside these winter school holidays. This week the Postcards team shares some great ways to entertain the kids. Bridget goes from a Winter Wonderland to exploring the Queen Victoria Market and relaxing over a slow Sunday lunch. Lawrence discovers some curious creatures at the Zoo, Dermott hypes the kids up at Playzone and Glen splashes around at MSAC.
Docklands Winter Wonderland
Bridget spends the day at the snow without leaving the city. The Docklands brings the snowfields to the city this winter with the creation of an amazing Winter Wonderland for all the family.

Slow Sundays at Newquay

Starlight Foundation
The Starlight Five Chefs Dinner is Melbourne's leading food and wine fundraising dinner and 2006 is no exception. Royal Melbourne Zoo
There's always more to do at the Zoo than you can jam into one visit. With more than 350 animal species from Australia and around the world, Melbourne Zoo is Australia's oldest zoo. It opened in 1862 and has been enjoyed by visitors young and old.

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre
Glen splashes about at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, also known as MSAC a second home to many of Australia's elite athletes and a key venue for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. MSAC is extremely popular when it comes to training, regular competition, leisure and large events. It caters for those who are elite athletes, regular competitors or those who want to try a new activity. It offers a wide variety of sports for everyone, from badminton to yoga. MSAC also has eight basketball courts that seat 2000 people.
Great activities are on offer during school holidays, like SplashOUT, or even the giant speed slide. Race against your friends with fun inflatable water racers or test your speed as you dive through tunnels, slip down slides and tackle the inflatable obstacles.

Playzone
Dermott visits Playzone one of the largest play centres in Australia, built for parents to enjoy with their children. Features include a vertical drop slide for children aged seven years and over, a carnival slide that kids slide down on hessian sacks, a timed gladiator obstacle course, a large jumping castle and lots of other activities. For toddlers there is a substantial play area that includes a play structure, ball pits and jumping castle.
The idea of the centre is to provide a place of fun for kids and offer parents some time out. Another feature of the centre is a choice of six separate themed birthday areas include Discoland, Soccerland, Fairyland and Toddlerland. Prices start from $6.50 per child.

Queen Victoria Market Cooking School
Bridget cooks up a storm at the Queen Victoria Market in a cooking class especially for kids aged between eight and fifteen.
The market presents a regular series of seasonal cooking school programs throughout the year, with evening and weekend classes showcasing great Melbourne chefs and the fresh produce and products available from the Market.
The Queen Victoria Market Kids' Cooking Classes run every school holidays and last about two hours.

Animal Farmyard
While at the Queen Victoria Market take the time to visit the Animal Farmyard provided by Gum Gully Farm. The mobile farm animal nursery brings cute and cuddly animals for you to pat and feed. There are over 40 animals including a calf, deer, fawn, lambs, goat kids, piglets, geese, ducks, chickens, bantams, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducklings, and chicks.
The Animal Farm is located in 'I' Shed, near the corner of Queen and Therry Streets. It is open on Tuesday 20 and Thursday 22 June, from 10am to 2pm.

Foodies' Tour
Bridget discovers the newest foods and trends on a foodies tour of the Queen Victoria Market, with a qualified Market Guide. Bridget meets some of the specialist traders and picks up valuable hints on selecting produce while sampling some of the delicious food that the Queen Victoria Market has on offer.
Tours depart Tuesday to Friday and Saturday at 10am.
