| Modest and low profile by Toorak Road standards, Yoshi is always busy due to its well-deserved reputation for good quality meals at reasonable prices. Japanese pop music and a wall-mounted widescreen plasma TV give the place a modern feel but it is the food rather than the ambience that is the draw card here - chef, Yoshi, has worked in some of Australia and Asia's leading restaurants such as Washington Hotel (Tokyo), Suntory (Sydney) and Kenzan (Melbourne).
In this location, diners can choose from almost 40 different sushi roll variations, teppanyaki, yaki soba noodles, salads and deep fried and hot dishes such as king prawn tempura, or sakana shiyoyaki (pike jaw grilled with Japanese Hakata salt). Vegetarians won't be left hungry with an abundance of meat-free offerings such as nasudengaku (chargrilled eggplant with miso) or agedeshi tofu and Japanese pancakes.
