Our ancestors haled from the township of Craigo in Scotland. Their farm was located on the banks of the River Esk where the ferry would dock. Hence they named there farm Boat O’Craigo. Drawing from our Scottish heritage, some of our wines also carry names synonomous with Scotland. Our aim is to deliver quality wines to you. Therefore we decided to plant our vines in the most suitable location for each individual variety. We have two vineyard sites within the Yarra valley; our Black Spur range of white wines come from our high altitude vineyard at Healesville, whilst the reds are grown within the rich volcanic soils of Kangaroo Ground. Situated in the very Eastern side of the Yarra Valley, North of Healesville, this site is home to our Black Spur range and was specifically chosen for our cooler climate varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. One of the highest altitude vineyards in the Yarra Valley, this vineyard sits at the foothills of the Black Spur Ranges. Bound by the Graceburn Creek, and riddled with riverstones, the conditions of this site are not dissimilar to our neighbours across the Tasman. It is here that our cellar door is situated. Floor to ceiling views over looking the vineyard and Mt. Riddle make this a truly spectacular experience when you walk through the door. At the western end of the Yarra Valley, on the top of the highest point at Kangaroo Ground, beside the Memorial Lookout Tower, we have our red wine vineyard. This north facing block with volcanic soils has proven to be a perfect location for our Shiraz and Pinot Noir vines. The deep moist black clays require minimum irrigation, and allow the vines to obtain a natural balance. |
