24 June: Day Trips

Postcards Logo

There are many things about Victoria that the Postcards team love and most are only a stones throw from Melbourne. So grab your thermos and a map because this week we are day tripping! James Reyne takes Glen for a tour around his favourite Mornington Peninsula spots, Nicole Livingstone and the twins visit Warrook Cattle Farm, while Bridget bumps into a crafty celebrity in a very crafty town.

Life's Sweet, Kyneton, Victoria, Australia

Kyneton
Kyneton is an historic gold rush town located an hour's drive north west of Melbourne off the Calder Highway. It's a township noted for its beautiful bluestone buildings. Join Bridget as she takes a journey around this quaint township and visits a few of the gems, the Slow Living Organic Wholefoods, Life's Sweet, Pizza Verde and the Royal George Hotel.

Flinders, Victoria, Australia

Flinders
When James Reyne, former front man of one of Australia's favourite bands, Australian Crawl, invited Glen for a day on the Mornington Peninsula, it was an offer he couldn't refuse. Flinders is a 90-minute drive from Melbourne and is one of the Peninsula's oldest farming regions. With such an amazing coastline and a lush and fertile countryside, it's easy to see why the Peninsula provides such inspiration for James.

Warrook Cattle Farm

Warrook Cattle Farm
The country is just 55 minutes from the city at Warrook Cattle Farm, which is at Monomeith along the South Gippsland Highway, 10 minutes past Tooradin. A family day pass of $65 allows your lot a taste of life on the land but be prepared for plenty of tumbles and lots of laughter, the rosy cheeks are free.

Only 156 kilometres south east of Melbourne high up in the stunning Strzelecki Ranges, you'll find Mirboo North, home to one of the most acclaimed breweries in the state – Grand Ridge Brewery. This Holy Grail of breweries has collected just about every beer award imaginable. They've won over 100 international medals, every Australian title that exists (and most of these several times over), not to mention the illustrious Victorian Premier's trophy three out of a possible six times. If that hasn't sold you, we don't know what will.

Werribee Mansion
Werribee Park Mansion is just 30 minutes out of Melbourne via the Princes Highway. With its beautifully manicured lawns and rural setting, it's perfect for a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A day at Werribee Park wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Sofitel Mansion and Spa.
