| If you're one of the many who finished uni and took the obligatory backpacking trip around Europe (read: insemination tour), you'll know the many delights that await the weary traveller in Spain. Wine, tapas, sangria, siestas and Blue Spanish Eyes number among the plethora of memories most people hold when departing the country. But for those whose fondest memories involve Spanish wine and tapas, then Basque is for you. A favourite with locals, shoppers and first-daters alike, Basque offers a superlative (and almost superfluous - almost) collection of Spanish wines, liqueurs, sherries, ports and beers. If there were any more Spanish alcohol you'd swear you'd been clubbed in the night and flown to Barcelona with your cousin Miguel. Each night of the week you'll find Basque packed to its Mediterranean roots with eager tapas aficionados throwing back another jug of sangria or noshing down on some churros with a glass of Pedro Ximenez sherry. If you're a little bit lucky you may be able to grab a plate of pork belly with quince glaze, washed down with some seriously good Spanish vino. |
