La Maison de Babette is an affordable French style 'B&B' owned and run by French born artist and craft worker Elisabeth 'Babette' Shields and her husband from their large Victorian home only 5 minutes by tram from the centre of Melbourne (less than 5 mins walk from North Port Station: Tram Route 109). Maison de Babette is walking distance from the Grand Prix circuit. The accommodation comprises a 'guest wing' of three bedrooms, a double a twin and a single, with exclusive use of their own large luxury bathroom, separate wc and study area with free 24hr cable internet. There is also an attractive sunfilled guest lounge with open fire, tv, library, games etc. where breakfast is served each morning. The accommodation is ideally suited to groups of up to 5 friends travelling together. Maison de Babette is particularly keen to welcome overseas guests who wish to stay for two nights or more and who may wish to experience 'Australian Lifestyle' with a French flavour. Guests may even practice their French with their friendly hosts. 'Babette' has hosted overseas visitors and students from Japan, Korea Taiwan and China over many years and has always enjoyed showing them her adopted city with its wonderful markets, galleries and museums as well as the beautiful scenery, vineyards, beaches and wildlife close to Melbourne. By arrangement Babette is happy to prepare home cooked French Cuisine for her guests, and to involve them, if they wish, in visiting markets to buy fresh produce and learning to cook French and Australian dishes. She is also happy to demonstrate and teach guests about her craftwork, making Jewellery, mosaics and patchwork.
