Turn off at the beautiful little village of Glenlyon and drive a few kilometres through the picturesque hills to find Ellender Estate. Its a secluded vineyard and a welcoming one with regional platters available, a wood-fired oven, and a new outdoor pavilion overlooking vineyard, dams and hillsides. Wine quality
is very good. Ralph Kyte-Powell

Gisborne Peak is a labour of love for Bob and Barbara Nixon. From small beginnings as a hobby block in 1978, it has grown into the impressive vineyard that spreads out before the wide verandahs of the picturesque cellar door. Taste the very good chardonnay and pinot noir, perhaps as
an accompaniment to pizza from Gisborne Peaks wood-fired oven Ralph Kyte-Powell

The focus at Glen Erin is as much on accommodation, lunching and dining, and conferencing as it is on wine. But all these things go together anyway. Mystic Park is the popular sparkler here; there is also chardonnay aged
in German oak; a light but gamey pinot poir; and a finely spiced Gewürztraminer. All sorts of special dinners are held here, ranging from astronomy nights to winemakers dinners. Ben Canaider

The Hanging Rock region is full of scenic splendours, none better than the rock itself. From Hanging Rock Winerys hillside tasting room, there's a great view of this geological curiosity in the forest, with the imposing bulk of Mount Macedon behind it. Hanging Rock wines include the Macedon sparkling wine, uncompromisingly made with an eye to the great traditional Champagne houses of France, the brisk Jim Jim sauvignon blanc, and the outstanding
Heathcote shiraz. Ralph Kyte-Powell

Morganfield is in real thoroughbred country, a pastoral landscape of forests, meadows and grazing horses. The ponies roam beside the homely cellar door, a good place to contemplate the coutryside and Mount Macedon looming in
the distance. The wines are friendly styles made for easy drinking. Ralph Kyte-Powell
