14 October: Red Hill

Postcards Logo

Red Hill is the grand dame of Victoria’s craft markets. Located on Arthur’s Seat Road, the market is an hour and a half south of Melbourne. It’s held on the first Saturday of the month from September through to May and it’s simply not to be missed! On this week’s show Bridget visits the cupcake stall and ends up at cupcake school at the Crabapple Bakery. Loz meets the Honey Man and visits the home of Pure Peninsula Honey, Esther buys some organic pampering products and goes back to the shop where everything gets made and Glen finds some five star accommodation that edges the market.

Dragonfly on the Hill

Dragonfly Accommodation
Tucked away amidst towering native gum trees is the very impressive and architecturally designed Dragonfly on the Hill. Whilst dragonflies have been on the earth for 300 million years, this dragonfly has only recently celebrated its first birthday. That means it has that fresh new house look where there's no clutter and everything's in its place and for many families that already sounds appealing. Purpose built, Dragonfly houses two self contained apartments and has the flexibility to accommodate a single couple, two individual couples or a family.

Dragonfly on the Hill has weekend overnight packages starting from $460 per couple.

Pure Peninsula Honey

Pure Peninsula Honey
Down at the Pure Peninsula Honey farm, owner John, who has had a stall at the Red Hill Market for seven years, took Loz on a tour and introduced him to his beloved honey bees. Pure Peninsula Honey has up to 20 different varieties depending on the availability of different blossoms. As an aside, John rents his bees out to pollinate crops and offers hive removal and open days on the farm to teach amateur apiarists how to locate the Queen.
