Appropriately set in the European-style Hardware Lane, Vialetto announces its presence with a cluster of alfresco tables, linen aflutter in the breeze. If it is a bit too brisk to dine street-side, the sunken interior of the restaurant has its own attractions. Simply furnished with cute green lamps hanging from the ceiling, a seat at the right table offers views of suit-clad legs scissoring past the window - which if nothing else, allows for peeking at the shoes of passers-by between courses. The menu itself is unashamedly Italian, but goes beyond the ubiquitous pizza (although there are a couple of woodfired examples on the menu) and creamy pastas to include deceptively simple Italian style mains, such as calamari tubes stuffed with spinach, prawn and sun-dried tomato. The addition of occasional live jazz adds a mellow, ambient touch.
