| While many a chef is attracted to the bright lights and big bucks of the city, country towns are not necessarily left in the culinary cold, as rural gems such as this one prove. Chef Matthew Milsome, having earned his stripes in the concrete jungle, has turned his sights homeward to the town of Mooroopna. His combination of local knowledge and urban training has resulted in Teller, a restaurant that comfortably straddles the divide between casual noshery and high-class fine diner.
During the day, the old bank building is the place to go for a casual bite on the run - perhaps a quick brekkie or a hearty hot meal that's just a bit more interesting than you'd expect from your average cafe. The evenings are a more formal showcase for Milsome's culinary whimsy - a distinctly modern Australian medley of Asian and European tastes and styles. While the menu is minimal, there are still a greater number of tempting options than one can get through in a single sitting. To cater for the frustrated cravings of diners unable to make a choice, Sunday nights are dedicated to presenting a six-course degustation of menu highlights. |
