Winter special: 5 August 2006 2006
The Postcards team takes you on a winter special. Dermott swims with the Brighton Ice Bergers, Glen takes you on a tour around Falls Creek, Bridget meets up with some of the skaters from Dancing on Ice, Lauren visits TV50 and Lawrence spends the day with Elmo at AFL World.

Bridget gets some ice-skating tips from Dermott Brereton

Dancing on Ice
Torvill and Dean's Dancing on Ice brings Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean together on Australian ice for the first time in a decade. The world-famous duo has trained a team of well-known local personalities in the expert art of ice-dancing, ready to compete in a live ice-skating spectacular. Bridget was lucky enough to catch up with Getaway's Jules Lund and AFL legend Dermott Brereton to pick up some tips on the spectacular sport.

Tuesday 7:30pm Channel 9

Ice Bergers

Ice Bergers
Dermott takes an early morning plunge with a bunch of 60 dedicated masochists commonly known as the Ice Bergers. They meet at the Middle Brighton Baths, one of Australia's few remaining sea baths, at the ridiculous hour of 6am to swim every morning regardless of weather conditions.

The Middle Brighton Baths were first built in 1881 and wrecked by a huge storm in November 1934. The Baths re-opened in December 1936, becoming a local landmark and providing safe sea bathing.

Glen discovers Falls Creek is the perfect place to become a snowboarding expert

Falls Creek
Glen carves up the slopes at Falls Creek, set high in the Australian Alps in north-east Victoria. Falls Creek Alpine Resort is surrounded by some of Australia's most spectacular scenery and some of the nation's best skiing terrain. Well known for the best and most consistent snowfalls in Australia and its unique village atmosphere and variety of ski runs, Falls Creek is the only true ski-in, ski-out alpine resort in Australia where you can ski right from your door to the slopes in normal snow conditions. Falls Creek features three terrain parks from beginner to advanced and a massive half pipe, 'The Super Pipe', which stands six meters high and is over 150 metres long.

Snow tubing
Snow tubing is actually one of the most popular snow activities outside skiing and boarding, probably because anyone can do it and it doesn't require much skill or technique – just a firm grip. A specialised lift called 'the Tube' transports tubers to the top of the designated snow tubing slope.

Helicopter lift link
Transport yourself and seven of your friends between Falls Creek and Mt Hotham in a ten seater Kawasaki BK117 helicopter that takes just six minutes. And with your Hotham-Falls Creek Lift Pass all you do on landing is grab your skis from the ground crew and away you go.

Huski Luxury Apartments, Falls Creek

Huski
After a hard day of skiing Glen relaxes at Huski, the hottest place to stay in Falls Creek. Huski features brand new penthouse apartments, spectacular views from your private balcony hot tub and one, two and three bedroom self-contained studio apartments.

Huski Produce Store
Glen enjoys the Huski Produce Store, a produce store come café with a difference, the difference being the absence of a permanent menu. The resident chef decides what to cook each day based on the freshest produce available. So tantalise your taste buds at Huski's very own Produce Store.

Huski Day Spa
Huski is an incredibly relaxing place to stay, but if you need that little bit more indulgence after a hard day on the Falls Creek slopes you can relax, rejuvenate and de-stress at Huski's own day spa, which is designed to pamper the body with wondrous results.

Lauren explores TV50

TV50
Lauren explores TV50, a landmark exhibition that celebrates the past, present and future of television in Australia. The year that the Olympics came to Melbourne was also the year that TV arrived in the lives of Australians. And what a 50 year journey it's been. We've seen ourselves in Kylie Mole and Kath and Kim, and tuned in to everything from Hey Hey to Hey Dad.

We've celebrated at Scott and Charlene's Neighbours wedding, and cried when Molly died on A Country Practice. We've discovered stars on Young Talent Time and Australian Idol. Personalities like Grahame Kennedy, Bert Newton, Molly Meldrum and even Louie the Fly have become Aussie icons.

Through moments like Norman Gunston's coverage of the Whitlam dismissal and sporting triumphs at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, TV has reflected our history and shaped our national identity. From the flickering box in the corner to cable and the digital 'set-top box', the technology of television is always changing.

Packed with hundreds of classic clips and rare objects, plus an awesome wall of 750 televisions and weekly talks with industry stars and insiders, TV50 will take you on a nostalgic journey into your lounge room memories and look to the interactive, online and mobile TV of the future.
