Guys and Dolls

Guys and Dolls

A dazzling new production of the all-singing all-dancing musical Guys and Dolls comes to Melbourne direct from London’s West End this autumn.

Book your seat to see this timeless story of boy meets girl. As well as breath-taking dance routines, fabulous costumes and classic hits, it boasts a roll call of Australian stars. Some of the big names of Australian stage, screen and television (or all three) have been cast, and include Lisa McCune, Marina Prior, Ian Stenlake, Garry McDonald, Shane Jacobson, and Magda Szubanski.

While the Australian show has been produced in a contemporary 21st century style, the musical's hit list of favourite and familiar tunes is lengthy and includes If I Were a Bell, I've Never Been in Love Before, Take Back Your Mink, Sue Me, Adelaide's Lament, Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat and Guys and Dolls.

The story goes…
Guys and Dolls is set in New York in the 1940s. Small-time gambler Nathan Detroit bets his friend Sky Masterson that he can't make the next woman he sees fall in love with him. When the next doll happens to be the neighbourhood missionary Sarah Brown, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening's entertainment.

Record breaking Australian audiences will be treated to an all-new production; a collaboration between The Donmar Warehouse and The Ambassador Theatre Group. Originally starring Ewan McGregor and Ally McBeal's Jane Krakowski in the West End, Guys and Dolls was the longest running musical ever at the Piccadilly Theatre and the fastest recouping musical ever in the West End.

Designed by Christopher Oram and choreographed by Rob Ashford, Guys and Dolls will be directed in Australia by rising British directing talent, Jamie Lloyd.
