Times being what they are, $1.40 for the humble Paddle Pop can seem a bit steep. So next time your face is melting off and you can't scrape enough for an ice cream, why not cool off in free, air-conditioned comfort at ACMI's new permanent exhibition?

Screen Worlds: The story of film, television and digital culture, takes you on a fascinating and sometimes cringe-worthy journey through Australia's screen history.

It includes defining TV moments such as Charlene's wedding, more than 2000 film clips, Anthony McCall's experimental fog and light installation, and memorabilia ranging from Mad Max's Interceptor car to Cate Blanchett's Elizabethan dress.

There's even a playable copy of the original Super Mario Bros, to help you while away the sweaty hours. Cooler than an icy pole in more ways than one.
