| Perhaps it's the dark red and chocolate decor or the secluded bunker-style setting, but something about Markov Place feels a little like it could be the meeting space for historic Spanish revolutionaries. Within its cavernous space, this secluded eatery blends bold Spanish posters and a spicy mod-tapas cuisine to evoke European backstreet wine bars. Soft leather stools line the separate bar area for those just simply stopping by for a drink, while communal tables, spacious booth seating and natural lighting from large glass doors complete the welcoming dining room.
The menu of bar snack-style share plates changes almost weekly, featuring dishes such as wagyu beef; or stuffed zucchini flowers with queso de cabra, chilli, mint and caper berries. Main courses range from Cajun roast lamb to seafood paella with saffron, chorizo, peas and asparagus; paired with a decent wine list of more than 50 Australian, French and, of course, Spanish varieties.
