| What exactly is funky about Grandma's? Well, this little bar and cafe in Richmond attempts to answer that conundrum by blending conservative '60s lounge suites with poster-smeared walls and wildly coloured lamps. It feels as if the owners have pinched their own nanna's stripey furniture, dusted it off and made it available for their funky inner-suburban patrons to floppily sink into. But perhaps the cherry on the top of Grandma Funk's retro pie is its old-school Space Invaders video consoles which are used as coffee tables. You can sip your cocktail, beer or coffee over a glowing display of alien warfare, complete with a flashing reminder to 'INSERT COINS'. Dammit you have to pay to play! Video games aside, Grandma Funks also serves up some pretty tasty dishes such as simple wood-fired pizzas, foccacias, burgers and pasta. The venue's location in amongst the Swan Street shops also makes it a convenient place to grab a bite in between ducking in and out of clothing outlets. And in hot weather, Granny opens her welcoming arms and the bar's entire glass frontage is folded back to allow the cool summer breeze to flow through. This funky granny is also available for parties. |
