You'll be in delightfully close proximity to your dinner buddy or even your adjacent fellow-eater when you sit down to taste the fare at Teriyaki. Many tiny tables and slim chairs occupy the space so you may find yourself moving rather daintily through the room. For something simple and light go for the samurai rolls (with salmon or avocado). Or there's the grilled eel in teriyaki sauce. Sushi and sashimi lovers won't be disappointed, nor will tempura addicts. Afterwards a juicy banana fritter awaits or if you've done your dash with food, sample the green tea milkshake. The restaurant boasts a sizeable sound system, but you'll hear nothing but soft, melodic Japanese tunes from that gentle giant. Next time you're around the Smith Street end of Gertrude Street, pop in for a little nibble, a little soup or - why not - a big, cold Japanese milkshake.
