| In the midst of Armadale's antique and boutique strip, Sozai is the top choice for business groups and lunching locals. Outdoor seating and a classy dark blue facade with raw rusted metal signage gives a marine theme, complementing the modern Japanese seafood menu. Fresh tuna, salmon and prawn sushi and sashimi platters or lunch special bento boxes are the popular choice here for eating in and takeaway, as is the prawn or vegetable tempura served on udon noodles with a dashi and soy-based soup.
BYO is not available but with a fine selection of 27 Australian wines as well as beers, liqueurs, and imported Japanese sake and plum wines, there are no barriers to drinking pleasure. Finish off your meal in true Japanese style with a steaming roasted rice tea and sesame ice cream. This place is always busy, but don't be put off by the small front dining room - a winding central staircase gives way to a spacious second floor where the delicate oriental settings continue with fresh flower displays and chopsticks resting peacefully on polished river stones waiting for your eager hands.
