4 March: Geelong

The Postcards team explore Victoria’s second largest city, Geelong. Billy Brownless makes his first appearance on Postcards this week as he shows us the National Wool Museum, the Botanic Gardens and some of his favourite local places. Glen samples the product at Pettavel winery, Loz revisits his childhood at Adventure Park while Bridget hops on a moped to tour the waterfront.

Postcards: National Wool Museum

National Wool Museum
Wool has been an essential part of Australia's growth as a nation. Since the arrival of sheep with the First Fleet in 1788, the wool industry has dominated our economy, our agricultural practices, our collective imagination and our reputation as a quality wool-growing nation throughout the world. Two hundred years later, in 1988, The National Wool Museum was established as Australia's only comprehensive museum of wool. The Museum is housed in an historic 1872 bluestone wool store near the port of Geelong.

Postcards: Pettavel Winery

Pettavel Winery & Restaurant
Pettavel Winery & Restaurant in Waurn Ponds has state-of-the-art wine making facilities, a fourth generation of growers at the helm and the resources to produce pretty much any type of wine you can think of. If you're a budding wine maker or just a little bit curious about the process of wine making, Pettavel invites you to see exactly what's going on inside the lab, where the team are hard at work testing their next vintage.

Postcards: Geelong Botanic Gardens

Geelong Botanic Gardens
The Geelong Botanic Gardens are situated in Eastern Park, a short walk from the Geelong CBD. The gardens have a wonderful past and an exciting future. In 2002 the 21st Century Garden extensions were unveiled. The 21st Century Garden is truly a unique project and represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the garden's masterplan, which aims to link the past with the present, the historic roles of a botanic garden to the contemporary.

Postcards: Adventure Park

Adventure Park
The Adventure Park is situated only 10 minutes drive from Geelong's city centre. With more than 20 rides to get the adrenalin pumping, this place is a fun seekers paradise, ideal for kids and adults alike. The adventure park is home to Australia's only adult jumping castle, which measures 15 metres by two metres and is a lot more tiring, and hazardous, than you think.

Psotcards: Jet Boats

Jet Boats
Jet Boat Wild Rides operates out of the Geelong Waterfront. A trip on one of the speedboats is a great way to get a view of the Bayside area and the city. But with 270 degree spins and speeds of around 70 kilometres per hour you might be less interested in the scenery and more inclined to hold onto your seat. The whole idea of this kind of boat ride is to have you flying across the water and turning so fast that it'll scare your pants off...And of course get them very, very wet in the process.
