To be dining in a seafood restaurant while taking in a beautiful view of Australia's newest harbour - it's nothing if not testament to the engineers who built Docklands. At Livebait, a stylish yet laidback seafood restaurant, the decor fully embraces the marine environment. Wooden floorboards and panoramic views through the vast glass windows emphasise the area's open spaces. With such expansive water views, seafood cravings are inevitable. Thankfully, the menu delivers more than enough succulent aquatic options to satisfy, from tempura soft shell crabs with chilli lime mayo and mint, to saffron linguine with crustaceans and fish. Livebait's previous rustic Mediterranean focus is still evident in dishes such as the tomato assiette, but with the arrival of their latest chef, John McLeay, the menu has been given a distinctly Asian spin. McLeay's passion for Asian food comes through in such dishes as the tempura nori-wrapped salmon with sesame pickled cucumber and dashi mayo, and the snapper massaman curry. This intriguing mixture of flavours pays homage to McLeay's influences and experience, as well as catering to the average diner's newly sophisticated palate.
